TANJUNG MANIS: Tanjung Manis will have a ‘One Stop Centre’ when a new administration centre is completed in three years’ time.
The new centre will house various government departments agencies, providing convenience to the people and industries in Tanjung Manis.
Head of State Tun Pehin Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud performed the ground-breaking ceremony for the first phase of construction of the centre yesterday.
The first phase will involve construction of a 16-storey building costing RM78 million. The contractor is Empayar Setia Sdn Bhd.
Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg, in his speech read by Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan, said the state government would continue to develop Tanjung Manis into an important centre of investment and economic growth in the central region.
“Tanjung Manis has its own unique attractions that can be used to attract investments including investments in agriculture and food sectors.
“This will guarantee our food security besides promoting sustainable commercial ventures that are environmental friendly,” he said.
He, therefore, suggested that Sarawak Timber Industry and Development Authority (STIDC) and State Planning Unit (SPU) as well as related agencies to review Tanjung Manis Development Masterplan to identify strategic action plan that needs to be implemented.
Abang Johari also hoped that one day a development authority would be formed in Tanjung Manis to administer the development process there and turn the surrounding areas into a more systematic and efficient areas.
He also said the construction of telecommunication infrastructure in Tanjung Manis costing RM35 million was nearing completion.
Assistant Minister of Urban Planning, Land Administration and Environment Datu Len Talif Salleh, Assistant Minister of Corporate Affairs Abdullah Saidol, Assistant Minister for Transportation Datuk Jerip Susil, Barisan Nasional candidate for Tanjung Manis Yusuf Abdul Wahab and acting STIDC general manager Hashim Bojet were among those present.
